Dark Nights

I walk ahead, not knowing where I go…
I just know within that its where I have to go.
I trip and fall, yet I get up and walk…
I can’t wait ‘coz the time ticks on the clock.
The journey is long with its ups and downs…
I go on moving like the waves in the ocean…
Changing the tide but never the rhythm…
I know not what I seek or want…
But deep within I know what I want.
I walk ahead, not turning to see my past…
I walk ahead not caring to see my future…
I walk for I know that every step I took is the past…
I walk for I know that every step I’ll take is the future…
I walk undeterred as I know within
That I will seek and gain what I want
It is not how the journey is that matters
It is whether I seek and attain what I want…

In pursuit of Dreams…

Don’t fear to dream, always dare to dream…
And then dare to chase your dream…
If you wish and dream for something it will be yours for sure,
Unless you accept defeat and subdue to circumstances.
Destiny is fixed only till the time you decide to change it.
Once you decide what you want from your life, you can re-write your own destiny…

Next book?

Now that my 3rd novel “Dark Nights…Journey of a slum boy” is published, I need to move on to my 4th book.

The 4th book I am writing is a different genre altogether. It is a fiction (children’s adventure) that I am writing especially for my son. He wanted me to attempt something entirely different!!

So now I am working with a basic idea, no fixed story line and yet wanting to write 50000 words!

The only trick to writing a novel is to silence the mind of all those hundreds of thoughts and make way for the character to take form.

How difficult it is? It is difficult only until the writer connects to the main character of the story. As the attachment with the protagonist grows, it becomes very easy for the mind to clear away all other thoughts and focus only on the story. As simple as that.

Don’t we all think of the person we are most attached to all the time? We also think of the person we hate the most – most of the time!!

So when the mind attunes to a particular person, the thoughts that flow are generally about that person.

For an author, the person is the character of the book. So before attempting to write, if a writer could think about the character, visualise him/her, then the thoughts will flow smoothly.

Now silencing the mind of all thoughts except for ‘the character’ becomes very easy. It is just a small switch. The keys on the laptop stare at you while you just type the flow of thoughts into a physical reality.

Hmmm…the process of silencing the mind of those numerous thoughts ( not related to the book ) is currently under progress 🙂

As far as the flow of the story is concerned, I am sure it will not be a hitch. Once I start writing, thoughts will flow, the character will take shape and the story has got to be something entirely different!

By the time Dark Nights is out in the Market and reaches all the readers I hope to finish the first draft of my 4th book.

Dark Nights- Foreword

Foreword, I believe gives the reader a gist of what to expect in the story. I always write a poem as its more interesting…

Dark Nights…Journey of a slum boy

Yes, that is the title of my third novel.

Now what is it about? Is it like your previous books?

No!! Each of the three books I have written are completely different from each other. Even the writing style and the story lines are different.

Dark Nights revolves around Murlidhar ( Murli) the protagonist. It is Murli’s story from the time he is 9 until he turns 29.

I have written it in first person…It does have my signature style foreword ( a poem), 26 chapters all titled in the alphabetic order.

The main ingredients:

Fear, Loss, Success, Love, Spirituality…

So what’s so new about all these ingredients????

Writing something new was not the idea. A story with a message and emotion and written with imagination is what is different.

It is how the writer weaves the story that makes it different or unique. It could be the same ghisa pita kahani…but presentation is what matters.

And it is not the run of the mill story. It is different.

So I hope everyone out there will give it a try! Read it once. You will find the message…you will find your path…

Dark Nights…Journey of a slum boy is available online. Will add the links in my next post.

Third novel!!

Generally after a novelist writes a book, gets it published and its out in the market, people wonder if the author is a one book wonder!

Will the author be able to present more novels? Will the author write in a similar stereotype style? From where will the author get a different story each time? Oh it will be a typical story or almost on similar lines with the previous one or in sync with the other novels…

These are the reflections that an author receives from the readers. Even more…these are just a few!

A novel is a story having at least a minimum of 50000 words. My first novel ‘In Pursuit of Dreams’ ( https://nainanair.wordpress.com/2012/02/08/in-pursuit-of-dreams/ ) was not very easy as I really had no idea how I would accomplish the feat of writing 200 pages of one single story. Yet, when I started writing or rather weaving the story, it just went on flowing until it reached the desired number of pages.

The second story ‘A Path Unknown’ ( https://nainanair.wordpress.com/2012/03/29/a-path-unknown-chapter-1/ ) was entirely different and I had a great time writing it. The general trend is to write different types of romance or family stories. Most of the stories are from our life.

Many readers asked me if either of my books are my own life story. I was able to easily deny the same. Now my third book is with the publisher and will be released in a month’s time. And NO! This story also does not have anything to do with my life story!

We face thousands of situations in our life. Also our close relatives and friends face various situations in their life. All this is shared and many incidents stay in our memory.

Writing our life story or picking incidents from our life or other people’s life would be pretty easy. A basic flair of writing, a passion and emotion included would make anyone’s life story into a wonderful novel. Isn’t it?

Each one of us today have a story to tell… It is just that all will not know how to present it in the form of a book.

My purpose of writing a novel is to present a story that has emotion. Emotion is not about tears…I do not mean emotional!!

A story is an expression in words and I believe that the emotion in those words should be able to touch a chord.

Also, writing for the sake of writing is no fun. There has to be a message in the story. And YES! The right message…a positive one…with the right moral values!

Your story must get people into a thinking mode. There must be something that they take away from it!

Each of my three books have a positive story line…there are difficulties faced by the protagonist…there is philosophy…spirituality…

We are spiritual beings and have certain moral values and follow certain philosophies…

So the same reflects in the stories I write. It has nothing to do with my personal life. Stories are weaved out of imagination and the thousands of deep impressions on our sub-conscious fill the stories with emotion.

A story written logically using the conscious mind, with a study of the market as to what will sell would be a dry story lacking emotion.

A story that comes out of the sub-conscious might not be a super hit novel, but people who read, relate and absorb the emotion in the words will simply love it!

Have a story line all ready for my 4th book. Have written 10000 words too! But my children want me to write a book for them…So am on a different journey now! That story is temporarily shelved 😦

A different genre all together. Have no idea how long it will take! It has to be a story that children will enjoy, relate to and learn from…

How am I going to accomplish this feat? Have to do lot more of meditation and tap the sub-conscious mind! I do not believe in researching on the internet! All the information, emotion, imagination is there right in our mind. Just that we need to tap it instead of just clicking for the same on search engines.

Till then I will keep updating on how I am progressing on the new book. Hmmm…obviously I will be sharing my musings too!
