Lessons from nature…

The clouds gathered together and their color darkened from grey and light blue to dark grey and almost black. The calm shades had turned dark and it was time for them to burst. Anytime it was going to be raining and the outburst would be heavy…

How much of this can we relate to our self? When we are upset or angry, do the clouds in our mind gather, darken and then burst out in tears?

Akin to nature are we…not much of a difference. The huge mountains just got enveloped in the clouds and became invisible. What was gigantic could just phase out temporarily by a film of clouds…

The rocks hardly move and yet when water cascades down the tough rocks, over a period of time the rocks crumble…

Nature teaches us a lot of lessons if only we would take some time to observe. We are much too caught up in our day to day routine life to spare time for nature. Even on a holiday we are busy sight seeing and trying out a variety of foods and clicking photos.

Are we missing something here? Are we actually sight seeing? Or are we just seeing a place and then clicking quick pictures and posting quickly on networking sites? What was the purpose of our visit/tour? Is it to show off to all around us or to share?

It is not that we must not share, yet let us not miss out the moments of peace, our special moments with nature…it is time we came back to our true nature…of just being…being a witness to the scenery, to the beauty around.

Watching the waves as they splash on the shore, observing the sun as it rises/sets, the chirping of the birds, the silence of nature amidst the sounds…

Watch, witness, observe, absorb, feel, emote…These are not words in the dictionary…these are what we could be doing…

Let us learn to be…just be…as we sit even for a few minutes silently…watching and living…

As the clouds gathered I looked out of the balcony of the high rise in Mumbai, where I stay. I sat watching for quite some time…the clouds almost touched the balcony. I felt a sense of awe…Sounds which could be heard moments ago seemed to just fade out…I could not take my eyes away from those clouds…The mountains had disappeared…the sky was just covered with clouds completely…it was hazy…and suddenly it burst into heavy rain…in a few minutes it was all over! The clouds dispersed, the drizzle continued and the mountains visible again…For those few minutes I was so close to nature…I felt one with the clouds, the rain and the invisible mountains…

It is these moments which we can catch sitting right in our homes, that we miss…I sipped the hot ginger tea I had made and reflected on the beauty of nature….

The taste of ginger, lemon grass and cardamom in the tea was enhanced as I felt completely aware…thoughts seemed to have gone for a nap…I just felt as if time had stopped…

If this is what is meant by ‘being in the present moment’…its a beautiful experience…
